My name is Maica Levenbach,
Being born at the Dutch coast, I grew up with a love for the ocean.
When I discovered surfing 30 years ago, there was only a handful of people in the water enjoying our sport. 5 years ago I started to work for the HSA to professionalise surfing in The Netherlands.
I started with training the most talented grommets and juniors on the local shores, taking them to train abroad and compete in international competitions.
For the last 3 years I’ve been head coach of the junior and senior national team when we represent the country at World and European championships.
My personal goal is to reach the highest level as a coach and be a mentor for the athletes and coaches
that I work with.

I have been a professional surfer for 15 years, competing on the WSL Challenger Series for most of that time.
I find purpose in sharing my experience and guiding the next generation of athletes. My goal is to be the coach and mentor I wish I had growing up—honest,
open-minded, and willing. I also look for these qualities in the young surfers and athletes I work with.
Surfing, to me, is much more than a sport; it’s a lifestyle. While it comes with many highs and lows, with the right people around you, it can teach invaluable lessons that apply to all areas of life.
The first time I watched Beyrick de Vries surf was at the Ballito Pro, where he beat Jordy Smith. He has an incredible amount of talent and wears his heart on his sleeve. Now older and wiser, both in life and in surfing, he has the qualities to be a great coach.
